Change your reading books for others of humor

One of the activities of the 16th International Graphic Humor Exhibition is to donate reading books in Exchange of others dealing with humor topics. Those reading books will be used in different cooperation projects.

 

The collection will be made in the three exhibition halls: San José de Caracciolos, (c/Trinidad, 5); La Fábrica del Humor, (c/Nueva, 4) and in La Casa, (c/Diego López de Zuñiga,28) during the different exhibitions periods.

 

Through the Office of Cooperation and Solidarity of the University of Alcalá, the books collected will be sent to several schools in Cuzco (Peru), to the Atlantic University (Ivory Coast) and to the Center for Integration of Disabled People in Equatorial Guinea. This work will be made in cooperation with the NGO GENEX.

 

The books donated must be literary books (novels, poetry, role plays, child books, tales, collections) written in Spanish. Textbooks and dictionaries cannot be used for the exchange. For every donation made, the General Foundation of the University of Alcalá will give a book of humor.

The program of activities goes on

The program of activities of the International Graphic Humor Exhibition organized every year by the General Foundation of the University of Alcalá goes on. Las Sunday has concluded the central week, where the “Quevedos” 2008 Awarding Ceremony, has been the main event. In the ceremony that took place last Wednesday at the Main Hall of the University, the Brazilian graphic humorist Ziraldo received that important award.

This awarding is linked to different exhibitions made with works by Ziraldo. Some of them are “Humor do Brasil”, situated in the Fábrica del Humor (c/Nueva 4) and “O Menino Quadradinho”, situated in the headquarters of the Colectivo de Acción para el Juego y la Educación (CAJE) (c/Diego López de Zúñiga, 28).

The central exhibition of this 16th International Exhibition was inaugurated last Tuesday. Entitled “La letra con humor entra” (Things are better learnt with humor), it includes 166 works by graphic humorists from 44 countries, dealing with the importance of universal education as a tool for fighting against poverty. This exhibition can be visited until November 15th at the San José de Caracciolos Exhibition Hall (c/Trinidad 5).

The graphic humorists that are in Alcalá during the International Exhibition have taken part in other activities, such as the Authors Meeting, where there were dealt questions related to the contribution to society that can be made through humor.

One hundred inmates of the penitentiary center Madrid II, in Alcalá-Meco spent a good time last Friday, thanks to the caricatures made by different authors in a graphic humor workshop, in an activity planned to facilitate the social integration of the inmates. The authors also visited the “El Juncal” Municipal Adults School, where they also gave a graphic humor workshop.

As in every edition, the International Exhibition is a stage to make presentation of new editorial Works by different graphic humor authors.

The conclusion of the central week does not mean the end of activities linked to graphic humor in Alcalá. In the next weeks the three exhibitions will remain open, and there will be different workshops in several education centers in Alcalá. There will also be showings of chapters of the series “Um Menino muito maluquinho” created by the Brazilian author Ziraldo. They will be made at the Fábrica del Humor on Thursday October 29th and all November’s Thursdays. Showings will always start at 7.30pm.
